Thread: Minimum calibre for Red Deer?

    pickup a cheap .303, was my first roar gun and its what i use every year now (although mine has a few aftermarket mods now!). put a 180 grain .303 round into its shoulder it wont get up very quick!!! as for the ammo if u can find some old cac military ammo you can modify the bullet head to make a soft point round with a bit of lead!

    I agree the 303 Brit and 180 gr is still a very good starter round it put lots of venison into my freezer.Sometimes it still goes for a walk with me and the deer dont seem to have got any tougher to kill

    Big thanks to all who replied, im going with my SKS, but my mate has a 'jungle carbine' mark 5 , so i can always have a 'play' with that....... always good to have options!!!!

    What cal out of the 2 do you use the most and you are the most comftable with.
    No 7.62 is going to help if you flinch and miss outrite because you havent used the gun enouff.
    But your better to take the rifle that you can use affectively then the one you no nothing about.

    cheers 6MMBR, im quite happy firing both cals, actually shot the 7.62 the most, its 7.62 x 39 so the recoil is quite mild and im not flinching....I think !
