Thread: Molesworth hunting applications

Does anyone know what's happening with the molesworth ballots for the rest of the year?

I'm not quite sure why it's not automated as it's supposedly a first in first served basis and saving man hours. Especially when it's now been months without an update.

Anyway I thought someone on here might have some info. Cheers.

It's first in first served all year round. Apply on line There is a hunting calendar on line that shows which blocks are available but it is temporarily unavailable at the moment

That calendar is never up to date anyway. Lady who handles it only works part time too

I know that. I've applied on Feb 1st but they haven't updated the calenders since new years and I was hoping to start making plans but it's difficult without knowing what period I've got if any. I thought someone on here might know why they are offline.

I wondered if she might have left or something since the calenders haven't been updated since January

I hope she doesn't become a victim of the cost cutting. Not quick, due to her hours, but a good person to deal with.
I think their permit issue system has slowed down. I hunted a Molesworth block late '23. Worried when no permit arrived and chased up 7 days before my hunt started. Was told I had the block and permit would be sent "within days". Actually received the email near Wellington while driving to Molesworth.
Complained about that after I got home and got a reply basically saying "sorry, but we were busy" and that was about all.

I called them a few days ago and they are only processing May and June period because they are months behind. The lady only process them on a Thursday. I applied for a block on the 10th of February for a week in July and I was told it would be a month before I would know if I was successful.

This makes it seem even more like it needs to be automated. Since it's first in first served I can't imagine it would be too difficult to have a computer system that allocates the blocks straight away and making it so that multiple people don't apply for the same block. Seems like with the calenders down they will be having to go through more and more applications for the same blocks wasting more hours.
