Question: If the Poulter is 4x4 driveable only sometimes, is it jetboatable?? If so, may go for a nosey next year when we do another South Island tour

Yes it is boatable, depends on your boat, your bank balance, your skill......and the river level. Has been boated quite often, but its one helluva long haul out if something goes wrong. An inflatable jet would be the go. And the park boundary is where most 4WD's and motorbikes stop as not allowed in the park. Not sure if that applies to boats, probably does.

If memory serves correctly you applied hand brake and switch off truck and said something witty.
The river was a long way down.

I have boated it once several years ago in a good flow, beautiful bit of country up there, yup even in good flow it's a bit boney in places, the new inflatable outboard jets would be ideal

Yep. Was stunned with where we got in March in ours. Most river barge owners said we were crazy going jetboating in March, but the weee inflatable proved them wrong. And when you do hit issues, you are only having to drag around 150kgs of boat...

Will check up on the uplifting dates.

Photo must of been taken before we winched the back around, 30+ yrs later I still remember rolling down in nothingness hoping to stop at the cutting underneath.

I would hate to think how many bloody hours on the shovel has been spent digging trucks out of that slip, or digging a new cutting after it got washed out for the umpteenth bloody time! Pretty sure i could account for 40 or 50!

"Applied the handbrake".....in a series Land Rover

I see the old high lift jack winch in operation. Back in the days when electric winches cost almost as much as the Landy. Good memories.

Poulter is definitely boatable.. I had a jet44 many years ago and got it just past the shingle slide that is shown in the photo of the landie. There were 3 boats and we could of got further easily. Mates got an old jet boat to Bull creek hut up the east branch but broke it and sunk it on the way out never to be seen again... A mate has had his outboard jet up thru the east branch gorge a few times now and done it almost easily.

About 25 years ago i picked up a fibreglass jetboat motor cover from under some beech trees, beside a massive pig bed, about 3/4 of the way through the East Branch. Looked like an older fiibreglass cover from a 20 or a 32. Was in perfect condition, No cracks or anything. Too cumbersome to carry out so we stowed it a little higher in the trees away from the old flood line.
