Todd McLay has been an NZDA member for ages.
Speaking to the Rotorua Daily Post, McClay said he was “very pleased” to be taking on the new portfolio in addition to tourism and trade.
“There are one million recreational fishers in New Zealand [and] 250,000 people who actively hunt, and many of them will feel they’ve never had a voice around the Cabinet table.
“It’s an opportunity now to make sure that the things that are important to them are not only heard [but] can be delivered in a future National government.”
Interesting times. Hope it all works out well for recreational hunters, shooters, and fisherman.
National was repeatedly told that supporting the new legislation would cost them votes. They either didn't believe it, or thought the trade off in possible support from general population was worth it.
License holders got Winston out and nationals support plummeted. Seems they may have realized that license holder will follow through and actively vote.
Still not voting national, fuck em.
Or......they may be confident they can take this out without the ACT voters and are simply strategising to get those ACT voters to once again vote blue. And then they will do a Winnie, and fuck us over yet again.
Employ brain, not heart. Keep Greens and Labour out. Vote accordingly.
Small win is still a win

I wonder if creating a portfolio like that, and a minister later on, they would not be able to “ control “ certain fish and game policies regarding fresh water quality in favour of the farmers organisation …but I m maybe wrong
Main issue with the strawman argument is that a registry will only be one more thing stopping the honest law abiding license holders selling to gangs. There aren't enough workers to review 3very license holders' transactions to verify the goods exist where they are meant to.
But, the way E cat was being managed was what created the gaps that Tarrant exploited and something had to change there. Unfortunately it wasn't productive long term or for the betterment of public safety...
There is no reason we can't manage the ownership and use of centrefire semi auto rifles for sport shooters under a reimagined E endorsement.
We already do this for pistols under a B endorsement, and machine guns, pistols and select fire rifles under a C endorsement.
I might even put it to Mr Mclay to see where he stands on this issue.
Having hunting and fishing specific representation would be an awesome win.
Hopefully they address the RMA issues we've seen with fisheries closures recently, probably the biggest access issue facing fishos currently
OK...so lets just ask a simple question.
how many illegal firearms have you seen in your lifetime???
eg handguns not belonging to handgun endorsed people.....semis after the buyback/gungrab clearly underlength sawnoffs.
off top of my head
4 different no 5 different handguns
including one posted on internet before poster realised the mistake and took it down.
saw a SKS weeks after gungrab was over SITTING ON DRUM IN FARM SHED.....
so thats 6 off top of my head that clearly arent "known about" and I dont get around with undesirables so the true number of whats out there must be huge.
