135 charges of supplying weapons to unlicensed people between 2014 - 2020
And thats only people charged.
So a really small number of offenses compared to the number of licence holders - and the horrendous cost of a register, combined with security risk is justified....to be administered by the Police - who have a high number of less than squeaky clean officers themselves - the 150 or so convictions for officers over the same period are just the convictions....
(I'm not trying to draw a false equivalency here - just pointing out that you cannot tarnish a whole group by the actions of a few - and you'll not fix it with a proxy, expensive, dangerous & incomplete register).
Let's just hope it's not Minister of "Hunting and Fishing brand"
Now that's a good idea, we can have businesses sponsor the members of cabinet.
Minister of "Hunting and Fishing" - sponsor is obvious.
Minister of Primary Production - sponsored by Fed. Farmers.
Tourism Minister - sponsor by Air NZ, Qantas, or Emirates?
Minister for Building - Fletchers.
Minister for Roads - Fulton Hogan, Higgins, HEB?
Minister for Employment - sponsored by unions or businesses?
Please add to the list.
Minister for Oceans and Fisheries - Sponsored by Sealord / Vela……

OK so I will go along with you for a minute...just for shits n giggles

I gave you food for thought on that many posts back..... the guns ARENT stolen in recent times....the yare out there grey area... you know all the THOUSANDS of sks/skk/SMLE that have never seen light of day for years..the numbers given in buyback..even the most optomistic dont stack up,the thousands of rifles imported havent been crushed, they are still out there.....somewhere...hells bells they were dime a dozen 35 years ago and there were many places selling them... so they were there..now they are not... the horse has bolted well and truely. to say registering them will FIX problem is dumb thinking.... imagine if all 16oz hammers had to be registered...no not being silly, just consider the logistics of trying to do so.
I personally have 12 claw hammers (and usually use screws LOL) I didnt buy a single one of them..the yjust sort of found a home at my place, inherited a few,got given a few others, picked up on roadside etc etc... now if you had to register all those hammers, how would you know there are 12 at my home??? other than me just telling you...and nope they arent all 16oz,so your job just got harder.
think about logistics for a bit then post up your solution to doing so.

Except they are stolen in recent times. I did a whole thread on it, with the numbers from the Police. 2005 to 2022, 11,700 firearms were stolen.
'to say registering them will FIX problem is dumb thinking'
Who is saying that having a Register will fix the issue of firearms theft and crime? Not me..I'm not really sure how you would go about fixing the issue of guns being stolen, other than making people store their firearms at an armoury? Even then, thats not going to be safe, as we've seen with the thefts from Police Station.
I do not fear the implementation of the register because my info may be leaked to crims. I genuinely fear that it is a step towards confiscation of my (now) legally held firearms. It is only because of the 'buyback' and the very odd sealing of information and findings around the 2019 massacre that has created this fear.
