National Parks plan review amid growing tourism, endangered species

Not too sure if this is the best place to put this or not on the forum

    https://www.stuff.co.nz/environment/...ngered-species

" . . .According to experts, ideas to be considered in regards to park management include capping visitors, introducing fees, restricting development and stopping the loss of "quiet places". It's about nature coming first, they say. . . "

Will be curious to see which nature they choose to put first with the native/non native debates out there.

Not open to public consultation apparently which is a shame given they are attempting to maintain the balance of what is 'sacrosanct' about national parks, which for many of us will be the pursuit of big game.

Hope hunting interests are represented in any changes proposed though this might be wishful thinking.

A link to the current General Policy for National Parks NZ is below.

Nz definately needs to start looking at capping the numbers in some areas, it's been a while since I checked but last time it was a 7yr waiting list to raft the Colorado and about 2 just to be a guide. Some of nz's iconic scenery surely deserves similar policies

They need to do something, The Tongariro crossing seems to be on some kind of list. May as well just be a conveyor belt of tourists.
I just hope the pricks don't start charging Kiwi's for permits.
