Certainly in Canada if something is shot you are required to take every kilo of meat out. This in itself projects more value on the animal that just for example taking back straps.
That is one thing I really liked watching Meat Eater - from that I gather it's the same in parts of the US as well - you must remove all shot game meat for consumption and not dispose of it - you can get an exemption if the meat is found to be diseased or to have worms. I was really impressed with the level of field butchery they were doing - put boning out on a whole different level

I enjoy the Born and Raised Outdoors YT channel (elk bow hunting) and they certainly put in the hard yards; often at 9,500-11,500 feet. They hike for miles and camp very lightly. always impressed with their ethos and ethics too

I was amazed at the animal numbers in the US and Canada. As it gets dark deer appear out of nowhere in the semi-barren harvested crop fields, huge numbers of roadkill deer on the main highways every morning, deer feeding in motel car parks in cities, herds of elk grazing on the golf course, etc.

I enjoy watching the Lone Star Law program on the Animal Planet channel, its about Texas game wardens. There it is illegal to not harvest the meat, and it is a felony to hunt on private land without permission.

As stated there are lots of differences but for me i hunt kiwi style over there (e.g. spot and stalk and bush stalking) and its awesome. Some of the differences i enjoy are using horses, hunting native animals and knowing you aren't at the top of the food chain. Get over there and hunt if you can.
