Its hard graft thats for sure. Im no longer active with committee with Hastings but I can point you in the right direction. @jasec would be a good starting point.
Maybe even have some Napier/Hastings combo for interesting speakers or other entertainment.
I always wanted to arrange a Napier vs Hasting paintball or other fun get together across the two clubs. Anderson shield and club judging was alway too parochial so did not encourage relationship building.

just talked to Dustin and ran over some topics. both clubs are working more closely now than ever I reckon, similar ideas and looking at ways of improvement etc.

We are the same committee meetings are open.
Guest speakers have been Dan Hardy, Davey Hughes so interesting but very hard to do every meeting.

Just been to hunting and fishing, Hopefully trying for dan hardy and hunters club next year, we try to start the year with a speaker or 2, need to make some phone calls.

Yeah it's often easier said than done getting the ducks lined up for a guest speaker.

Had Hughes a few years back, he can hold a room, excellent speaker.

NZDA Nelson had him there not long ago as a guest speaker

Is NZDA worth joining?
Hell yes. If it wasn't for these fellas giving up their time to teach my boy how to hunt through the HUNTS course, we would not have achieved what we have.
All I knew about hunting etc was what I'd read, or learnt through getting it wrong. He was always hassling me to take him out, and 9/10 times ended in disappointment. Through these fellas, we've managed to achieve success on places we wouldn't have been able to hunt on previously. The instructors have been very free with information to help out 'newbies'.
Whatever the sub was sounded a lot at the time, but to put it in context, was less than one wasted 'armed tramp'. Every club has members with their own agenda, but surely you're big enough to make your own decisions.
Everywhere there's blowhards and gohards, you don't have to be with them.
The cheap huts, access and organised hunts etc would cover subs.
The HUNTS course is the best money I've spent. It's kept the boy interested in not just hunting, but the whole package. Ethics is something that's needs reinforcing, and the more you see it around you, the more you practice it yourself. He's happy to watch animals now rather than just 'blow them away'. Hopefully this will cross over into real life as well.

Tonight's meeting was Dan hardy at hunting and fishing, was good

As a newbie, I've found the Hamilton branch to be awesome. There were a few bits of dodgy advice from old boys flying about, but everyone was friendly and welcoming, and the activity schedule is packed full, definitely more stuff going on than I can keep up with. From what I've been told, guest speakers are pretty common there as well.

Just joined Hutt Valley, mostly for the range but I'll go along to a couple of meetings a see what they're like.

Well worth it. I don't manage to get to my meetings but access to the range and public liability insurance makes it worth while. Just got the bill today for the year

If you think about it, if you buy the odd big tickets item and save 10% on the purchase, along with the insurance. You've pretty much covered the membership.

That's an accountants way of looking at it, me, i just like being involved and getting out of the house on meeting nights

Best advice is go on some club trips, good chance to hang out proper with members and you'll have more to talk about at the meetings, hunters being hunters we are normally tight lipped!!!
