Thanks for the offer , wouldn't mind chasing some of those japs either but she,s a fare way to get to the meetings each month ! I had an email from the local secretary today I told him that I used to be a member long ago so I think they will talk about signing me up next meeting so il make sure I put my best flano on I mite even get a hair cut for the occasion

What is the palmy NZDA like these days. Thinking about attending a couple of meetings with the brother in law ?

No idea but recently joined Nelson and going to first meeting this week.

Manawatu NZDA is going good mate, like all good things you have to make the effort so come along to a meeting (last wednesday of the month) and say hello.
Like most other branches we have range shoots, club hunts ,hunt courses, social nights etc. cheers

I am pretty happy with my NZDA membership as I use the Auckland range frequently. I haven't use much of the discounts yet and haven't managed to get away on one of their club hunts yet. Looking forward to do that.

You join NZDA as much for others' as for yourself. It has become an influential collective of individuals.

I think with whats going on with the Fiordland Wapiti herd vs Forest & Bird there is probably no better time for recreational hunters to be part of any of the organisations lobbying for hunters.

As a newbie I'm planning to join mainly to do a hunts course.
The range in my area doesn't have the best arrangement (very limited availability), so will probably be looking at other options for a range.

Yup, range access is not great in this area, I joined Upper Hut DS as an affiliate, its a bit of a drive but their range is awesome. Some of the other fellas in our area travel to Palmy or Horophenua to use their ranges.

I joined over twenty years ago with the hope by doing so my daughter & possible future grand kids could go still go hunting if they so desired

Back then that was an absolutely ridiculous notion as "we would always have firearms & be able to go hunting like we always have" because "they can't stop us"

My how things have changed over that last 6-7 years with our rights/traditions being eroded before our very eyes

Now its not just our firearms & freedom to use them that is in the firing line its our game animals as well

To me the main reason to join the NZDA is for advocacy, the more members we have the stronger our voice which can only help all hunters & firearms users in New Zealand

The NZDA is basically the only organisation that the powers that be will even remotely listen to or acknowledge, the amount of work done in the back ground is enormous

I understand the "old guys" comments, our branch has a few younger people on the committee but not enough

The landscape has changed, people appear to be busier & busier with less time, 6 day weeks, financial pressures etc, this is effecting all volunteer organisations

The NZDA membership is slowing growing with recent changes including a permanent presence & strength in Wellington undoubtably helping which bodes well for our future

Very well said Greg. Ive joined the South African version of Deerstalkers, The SA Hunters in 2000, served as Branch manager and Regional Coordinator for many years and Im still a member even though I never plan to move back. I still support their fight for their rights.

When I moved here, the first thing I joined was the Deerstalkers, as I too feel that we as shooters and hunters needs to join and stand together under one body to represent us.

If the old boys gets to much, use the democratic system to fix the wrongs. Change and test new things, things that the younger genetation will enjoy, but dont kill traditions. Cherrish them and keep them alive.

I've already enroled my eldest into Deerstalkers, with the little one following soon - its absolutely worth it.

Thanks, the family membership option is a great cost effective way for your partner to be a member & is valid for the kids until they are 18

I'm a member of two local pistol clubs & have been for many years, I only use their ranges once every 1-2 years, but I'm very happy to support them

Likewise TSNZ locally & nationally, haven't shot locally this year yet, or nationally for 2-3 years
