Thread: Ohakune water catchment!?

Hi, so I have heard that the ohakune water catchment is a prohibited hunting area but the maps say otherwise. Both the doc overlay and the print out hunting map indicate that hunting is allowed. Does anyone have any info on this?

Yeah definitely a wise move, just not clear on the doc website

Sometimes water catchment areas are prohibited (for entry, not just hunting) because of people might be carrying diseases and pee or poop in the catchment, potentially spreading the disease through the water supply. A mate had a permit for going into a water supply catchment near Palmerston north, he had to get tested for something (might have been TB or hepatitis?) before he could get a permit.
