It is not about fun...step out of the sleeping bag and thermal the whole side of the mountain from the camp site and see if one goes for a hunt or cooks breakfast.

yep that's the DOC info alright. I thought the DOC managers letter clarified the matter

My permits used to say thermals were prohibited during the hours of darkness, now they just say prohibited, so I suspect the rules have changed.

In the context of the DOC managers letter where he speaks about what constitutes 'hunting,'

Otherwise on your definitions we wouldn't be able to use torches.

The main concern from the letter is shots fired at night with unknown backstop

...but its not hunting. Its shooting. And therein lies the difference in attitude I guess.

Anyhoo, does anyone have any camp/ hunt spots for the chap? I'm unfamiliar with the area though the camp spots on the road through black birch to the start of track up to the ,'j,' looked pretty good

To be fair alot of the head torches today could be used as spotlights.

I guess you understand it for what you want to understand it for atbthe end of the day but if tested in court I would say you would get done.

Having not seen/read the original 2015 letter to Doc its hard to say. If you specifically asked can I use a thermal imaging device while hunting the answer be no.

Please feel free to test it

Re: thermal gear, it's a public safety issue. It's not as if DOC give a shit how deer are killed.

I use mine for scanning a hillside. It cannot be put on a rifle, and cannot be looked through via the scope. It is purely to scan. Aswell as give me a distance as they see the pulsar accolade xp50lrf range finding binoculars. And from what I'm reading, as long as I'm not using them to shoot an animal in the dark, then there should be no issues. If it were a thermal scope, that would be a different kettle of fish. Its not, so there's no point arguing over the fact of " i think its right," " i think its wrong " , "and I have the bigger cock". Was a simple question if anyone could please give me some pointers. Not - if you can give me your thoughts and let's debate the use of thermal optics.

Anyway, if someone can give me some info on where and how that would be appreciated

Without sounding like my cock is too big or small I rang doc....the question and answer below

Q: Are you able to use any sort of thermal imaging device, beit bino, monocular or scope on public conservation land during the day or night.

A: No it is prohibited in any for and any time of day or night

Any of the road ends will hold what you want.
