It says hunting is prohibited with any spotlights, torches, headlights, or artificial l8ght sources is prohibited.

    Aswell as
Hunting with any night vision equipment, thermal imaging, heat detection or infrared is prohibited.

Thing is , of im not actually hunting whole using them, then its legal. As long as while I'm using them, I have no mag in the rifle and the chamber is empty then its legal.

Fill ya boots, not mine to loose. My question to them was specifically the use of them....no question around hunting.

Best of luck, on a side note....pregnant hinds and velvet stags....not that it has stopped me in the past

Just rung and spoke to doc nz. They confirmed me I can use these, as long as I'm not using it as a scope setup mounted on a rifle, as long as I don't shoot after hunting hours, legally it's fine to do so, infact one of the collegues in the office uses his to do the same.

I would email that hunting advisor at DOC (cooksley) for an update. He seemed happy enough to state in writing what you say in 2015

ffs , Glad I have not lived in the North Island for well over a decade . You dont need thermal gear to find deer on doc land .

Ups the tally though, those that hunt for meat sales swear by them.

Just read this you get caught by the wrong person and you will be paying the court, judge and lawyer that you were only looking
The prosecuted now pay to prove innocence. Good luck there chap I like pie like Hamish but you are on a slippery slope with DOC
And NZ Police. Rules are to be tested

Also all new thermal boxes should have a sticker that reads for wanks that can’t hunt.
And yes have owned and used scopes and handhelds and as much fun as buying Pak n Save
    meat on a styrofoam tray.
