I read this story a few days ago on facebook. It gave me a real kick up the ass and made me buy a PLB.

I think I read that on here somewhere but it was an account by the person involved not a reporter...But I cannot find it. It was far more detailed and he commented on the PLBs.

After reading this it was very pleasing to see on the tv news early this week that the Taupo Greenleigh Rescue chopper is not going to be axed by the shiny bums, thank christ for that this rescue is a great example of how important it is for us back country users

I'd be curious to see if there was an insurance company picking up the tab for yet another foreigners accident in our back country?

The range of what we think and do is limited by what we fail to notice. And because we fail to notice that we fail to notice, there is little we can do to change; until we notice how failing to notice shapes our thoughts and deeds

Travel insurance generally doesn’t cover shooting activities.

That is why you never say that you were "hunting", "climbing", etc. when you had the accident !!

Same with other medical conditions - you only declare them as "pre existing" if in fact you have seen a Doctor about them !!

Half the harm that is done in this world is due to people who want to feel important. They don't mean to do harm-- but the harm does not interest them. Or they do not see it, or they justify it because they are absorbed in the endless struggle to think well of themselves.

In situations like that where they were prepared for most eventualities and were doing everything right, I dont have an issue with a rescue. I have issues where they are ill prepared and asking for trouble and need to be rescued because the inevitable and very foreseeable out come arises.
