When you get back ditch anything you didn't use for next time. Make list of what you did and didn't use.

There are some things you really need to take but hope to never use. Don't ditch them.

The real difficult thing is food.
It's proportional to how long you're in the hills and doesn't really get less per day. Food is bulky too.

A week is a long time.
The best way to make your pack lighter is to do for two x four day trips.
You can tailor your gear to the forecast then and reduce the need to prep and carry for every possibility.
Planning to stay in huts can also greatly reduce the amount of stuff you need to carry: fuel, windshield, sleeping mat, formal tent, spare clothes.

True but people also carry a lot of crap they don't need too. Say your walk in is up a river bed yet you still carry 2l of water etc go figure

The 3 things you can lighten up the most (at at cost) are your Pack, sleeping bag & tent.

Nimrod on the old fishnhunt forum said. "A heavy pack is made of many light things. "

i found writing down individual weights of all my gear helpful and then comparing to other products to see where i could get lots of bang for buck weight savings for price,
Exo Mtn gear have a spreadsheet you can copy on their website which i copied and modified
