    Pig problems Otago area

Hi there have been hunting forestry for the last 15-20 years and was hoping to find some farmland that would actually allow dogs as forest is generally weekend only. Have them up to date with worming etc and have up to date public liability insurance. Any leads to a likely farm would be appreciated that would allow myself and 2 kids on to catch some pork cheers.
I've tried door knocking but the only spots are over an hours drive and lack in numbers to make it worthwhile.

Over an hour's drive..... That hardly gets you out of town. Decent numbers vs a feed of pork.... Around here and hours drive is normal to hunt anything.keep knocking on doors and keep hunting the land you have access to,they may be there, just in next gulley.and if you seen to be good fella the neighbours place may open up too.

Yeah I don't mind the drive was more hoping to get something with numbers as it's hard getting pups going if only getting in weekend hunts as most would know you really have to put the pigs into them at the beginning.
I'll keep chipping away tho. Cheers.

Have you thought of those properties as opportunities? Whilst they might not be productive it may get you invited to other farms. Once you are known to one farmer doors can open elsewhere. May be worth putting up with the lack of numbers on one or two locations.

Also worth considering is those farmers will probably PREFER the numbers stay low,so you catching just a few will keep it that way and maintain good relationship with them. Having somewhere, anywhere to hunt is more than half the battle, somewhere to camp out n shoot bunnies with the kids is just as valuable in my mind.ishot wallabies on one property for over ten years and had great relationship with farmer because we kept coming back and knocking them over.1080 drop saw that stop, then farm got sold and access was lost.
