Things that worry me from that video. When the guides start talking about a tag system for bulls. Who do you think they feel should get the tags? 1100 Visiting hunters vying for approximately 200... or even 300 trophy bulls each year?

For comparison. The statistics out of the Tahr ballot for last year showed no guided parties with ballots, and 214 hunters, who will mostly be residents, after a bull Tahr in just the few landing sites and months of the ballot of those couple of river systems. Multiply that resident hunter efforts over the entire Public Tahr range. Who's going to miss out?

Now I have been a proponent of a tag system going back ten years or more for a number of reasons. I say too the guides too little too late. Where were you guys on this when it actually really mattered? Now a tag system seems to be about protecting yourselves.

I won a couple of NZDA chamois trophies in the ‘80’s both shot on public land - but as you said MD in a post or two back, they don’t stack up against modern trophies!

Yeah that hair of mine is out of control isn't it?
And I may have been wearing lipstick for all you know.
Oh and I'm not going drinking with you after dark again if that's the way you're thinking.
With our age gap that would be classed a paedophilia.

Geeez, the client gets it pretty easy. Guide carries the rifle. I guess he carries the cut lunch too.

Talk about making it easy. That isn't hunting.

Seeing it here also, NV, thermal and drones. Pathetic really.

I do love how they show a couple of 500" stags to introduce regular old NZ huntin
Almost related, I just watched a nz hunting show for the first time and found out that it's just like good ol' 'merica... where you need a mercedes ute and 15,000 worth of swaro glass and at least 6 of the latest gizmos and gadgets to accomplish a successful hunt. Don't strive to be merica folks!!

Sooo, where does it end with technology.
We already have rifles that can take game easily to 400yards if you want.

I always thought it was about pitting our skills against the games senses.

Radios, 4x4, google earth, drones, NV, blah, blah.

Eventually fair chase won't exist or has gone it already? And all the game will be as dead as the Dodo.

Any time I hear an American accent on a hunting video,I know it's not actually a hunting video. More like snuff porn for Cletus and pals.

Just watched the vid. What a stark difference from Steve Rinella's program but then maybe the intended audience is different too

the redstag guys were on small ship with whirlybird kept onboard overnight...when you start to add up rifles/plus scopes/rangefinders/spotting scopes/binos/tents/cookers/clothing/boots.....its worth a small house.

But if that small well managed block is yours and no one else is allowed to hunt it, everyone else will hate you.
But if you let someone with a funny accent shoot one, they'll really hate you.

Odd looking goats you have in the South Island.

I don’t know how to communicate what I saw regarding the monetization of hunting in the states. Long story short l, these guys have made a life out of having other people pay them to become full time hunters on private land and anywhere else they choose due to an unlimited budget…because they’re constantly hawking gear of some sort or another. I can’t imagine selling out the thing I most cherish or constantly filming myself like I’m a star…just seems off.
One thing that I think is hard to describe or for people to wrap their head around is that most mericans have a week or two long hunting season so there’s 350 days of marketing and pumping new products and guys can’t go hunt so they buy the latest gadgets and the best camo underwear in the latest pattern available.
I am super jaded because…man it’s just hard to describe what the 10 most popular “hunting celebrities” did to western hunting in the states over the last 10 years.
I watched a season of the NZ hunter show on TVNZ+and as usual it seems as though kiwis are the toughest people in the world. Amazing the effort those guys put in. Amazing. Like I said, I’m jaded as F and I’m happy to be reborn as a 100% meat hunter

PS: Happy to sell GPS locations for deer/elk in CO/WY/WA/OR/ID/MT
