Planning Sth Island trip early Nov. Keen to meet...

Hi Team, I知 driving down to the IPSC Pistol National Championships in Invercargill for Oct 31 to Sunday Nov 6th. Then I知 a free agent for a few days returning to the Taranaki. I would love to do some Sth Island hunting, maybe get amongst some wallabies or some rabbit and hare or even a deer. More to the point, would be great to meet up with a fellow shooter/hunter/reloader. I知 not a young buck able to do hard yards anymore but I知 not quite geriatric (yet) either. I知 driving a capable 4WD with road tires. I can motel it but also happy to have a bed for the night and will have a sleeping bag with me. Not precious about anything and can fit in with most. Happy to contribute whatever is appropriate for meals, travel, etc. I prefer to avoid politics, religion and conspiracies in conversation mode. In return for hospitality I can reciprocate with an AirBnB quality base in New Plymouth for an intrepid Mainlander excursion to the Lesser Isle at a later date. I plan to bring a 22 Hornet and a 243 with me but have other options, 7x57, 6.5x55 etc. My ideal shooting distance is up to max 250m, sub 150m preferred. If you池e keen to explore possibilities, please PM me. All offers/proposals considered.

I lived in the States for 5 years and did a lot of motorcycling. Until I saw the errors of my ways, I toured on a 1995 Honda Goldwing and was a member of the Goldwing Rider’s Assoc. They had an online forum back in 1996 and published a member’s directory in hardcopy that members could list their name and info as contact for riders touring or in distress. You got to list what you wanted as on offer. E.G. a phone number and an area location, not an address, plus whether you could offer accommodation, mechanical assistance, breakdown assistance, a meal, or a meet for coffee and chinwag etc. I had flown from Tampa FL. To Atlanta, GA. To collect a 1988 Goldwing I had bought for 17yr old son to ride. Coming out of a motel at 4.30am on a cold wet spring morning in the dark, wind and rain I was only on the road for an hour when in the miserable conditions on the interstate on the GA. Border I lost 6 in of my front rim, immediately deflating the front tire, at 75mph on cruise control. No other traffic, straight stretch fortunately, and managed to ride to a standstill without dropping the bike. The next two and a half days I was taken care of by an African American bloke and his family while my bike was towed and repaired at the nearest town. Understand this is the deep south and I am your quintessential white guy. An experience I will never forget and was very grateful for.
Anyway, the point of the story is we have something akin to the GWRA directory available to us thru this forum. How hard would it be to have a sticky where folk can put their hand up with what they might have on offer to a fellow hunter/shooter/reloader visiting or wanting to visit the area. Yes it works quite well when someone asks for directions or assistance as it is. But nothing beats a face to face if the parties are willing – and then can go from there. Just enough info for a PM to be sent direct. E.G. a standard bullet point list with checks, like this:

    Handle: Jhon

    Location: New Plymouth

    Can offer:

    Meet for Coffee: Y/N/Maybe

    Meet for Meal: Y/N/Maybe

    Accommodation: Y/N/Maybe

    Guest Range Facilities: Y/N/Maybe

    Hunting Together: Y/N/Maybe
