Well, my guess is it will get used extensively by kids and school groups if it goes ahead, which cant be a bad thing.
There is a 100+ bed lodge just off SH29 owned by the Tauranga Intermediate that's used a lot by school groups/BOP Deerstalkers hunts courses/everyman and his dog, to teach them all about the outdoors etc.
A 4 day trip so close with new huts would be great .
Add Hurunui hut into the mix and you could have a 5 day trip ending or starting at the ngamuwahine lodge. The Route burn is 32km long and is a 2-4 day trip so tis not exactly a stretch..

He has dumbed down since you met him Chris. He has been flirting with the other sex and we all know what that causes.

I think that its good for the area to be developed a bit. however DOC needs to get off the backsides and do some active policing in the area to get rid of the hoons that are vandilzing there efforts. Im talking mainly of the area at whaka as thats where i see it happening more often. As said in a previous post the are has been turned into a bogg hole by hoons in 4x4s and motor bikes. There were plans for picnic tables etc to be placed in a grassed ares for family use and the area used to encourage better use by trampers and schools. ITS A GOOD AREA BEING WRECKED BY HOONS AND DOC DONT SEEM TO CARE.

For DoC to be showing an interest in the backbone of the Kaimai's instead of their pet projects on the fringes probably means they will be targeting getting 1080 into the area sometime in the near future.
Which is worse, ignorance or apathy...I don't know and don't care.

There was a TB problem on a farm about 20 km's from the park earlier this year which I understand to have had nothing to do with possums but hey! what better reason for DoC to bomb the nearest and dearest piece of bush. I have always been surprised that DoC have left it alone this long.

Man thats the last thing we need up there. There are to many native birds up there for them to kill. Not to mention all the water catchments that flow into populated areas. Then again that probably wont matter much to them morions.
There would e alot of very pissed off people in Tauranga if they poisoned the area with 1080.
