    Good job

Smokaroa is smack in the middle of the South Waikato ..... Bastards have billions of acres of bush to hunt right on their back door step.

    Cheers

Brazen poachers rile farmers | Stuff.co.nz

    More poachers needing identification.

Genuine question (not related to article) - does poaching reports go up around times hunting competitions are around?
How many deer are shot on private land or public land at night when local "Roar" hunting competitions are on/or how many poaching incidents are encouraged by the likes of online competitions and they're just looking for an easy hunt?
I've been wondering that a bit after seeing quite a few online entries to things on facebook right up against fences - not doubting they were on their own land, though - but wondering if it is part of the encouragement.

I think there is a definitely a connection.
I am currently hunting private land in southland and we have seen spotlights and people glassing parts of the farm.

There is a competition this weekend.
Run holder has hired security for the next week as he is sick of it.

If the dick head we gave the bird to yesterday reads this. We have your rego caught on a well placed game cam.
The animal you may have been looking for in the north facing gully, is now dead. 😆😆

We've just offered to lend a thermal imager to Murchison Police to help them catch poachers in their area and send out a deterrent message to would be poachers.

If they (doc/govt departments) stopped 1080 would there be less poaching ?
If they stopped giving back public land would there be less poaching ?
If they stopped selling big blocks of land to overseas buyers and keep it in NZ hands and let hunters in via ballot system would there be less poaching ?

Probably not cause the people that mainly poach wont give a toss for a ballot and Im sure poaching farms is for easy deer so I doubt more doc land is going to solve the issue

The people who poach are of the mindset they'll do whatever they want to.

You could set up more land, ballots, and bags of lollies by the side of the road and it won't change human nature - get something for free and fuck you jack attitude.

There's plenty of land available to hunt legally, the light penalties for the activity is frustrating.
More likely to get a fine for not wearing a helmet on the quad than for poaching it seems...
