The sink holes were the "ovens". Some people in our class actually took notes on the sidle pougars and ogre-snorts, they were seriously mocked . . . .

Funny ! I reckon i would have done the castle hill camp 1976/77 so memory is fading more than a little - worst memory is my boot had a nail that worked its way up through the sole and into my foot - the PE master would not let me hammer it flat so l had to limp Round the place in discomfort the whole time- he was a weird prick i mean the school was paying to send my to the national school’s athletics in Auckland the next week ffs and he was in charge of the athletics team
My best memory was going through cave stream that was really fun - took my 3 lads through 25ish years later they thought it was a real blast !
Great part of the county planning to spend a couple of day pre xmas staying with a mate at the Bealey hope to have a poke about for a deer.’
As a young fella I was told deer shit has a little point on one end and a little dent in the other end. The turds sort of fit together snugly. Sheep goats and chamois don’t do that
you Mararoa are on to it google it guys you will get photos etc - as an old hunter I would sooner see you learn your native plants and recognize them - in North Island mahoe five finger Pate fuchsia the comprosma - broad leaf family - deers favourite tucker - more important than what shit - learning what looks like feed areas and hunting them way more important - timing when to hunt areas with feed and sign that will get you deer
yes griselinia an absolute favourite for deer along with five finger pate some areas now rare as has been almost completly removed by deer and in a lot of areas now survives as an epiphyte in trees but deer will still pick up windfall leaves - mahoe is another favourite and one will see browse lines under mahoe groves that are as high as a deer can reach but again especially after a storm they will hoover fallen leaves - higher up in Urewera Tawari windfall is a favourite as is fushia -open areas receiving sun all kinds of new growth will attract deer - the comprosmas are hit hard by deer in facy anything with a soft leaf - they dont hit the likes of Tawa Rimu Matai but in many areas they are damn hungry - supple jack shoots even stinging nettle get hit - many deer I shot in Te Urewera were simply wandering along the bush floor looking for windfall leaves and very small regrowth as in some places the only plants surviving on the floor was weki punga and some narly comprosmas - seeing deer shit only said deer in area and not much more but clearings yes it said that clearing was being used - I would be worried though if I saw none -
Poo is hard to tell all depends on diet I've seen poo that's 100% deer and it's looked like all those photos.
The 2 on the right are sheep and the bottom left most likely sheep to. The top left I have seen sheep crap like that as well when the grass has dried out a bit.
