Thread: Poulter River Access and 4WD Track

Howdy All,

I have a few questions for anyone whose being up the Poulter River recently. I’m planning a 6 day trip to the Upper Poulter /Thompson stream/Cox saddle for Chamois and maybe a Red.

I’m new to hunting DOC land and have a limited lexicon on access and DOC 4WD tracks. It’s to my understanding that as soon as the Authers Pass National Park starts, 4WD is prohibited. I’ve taken a vehicle past Mount Binser before but had Mt White access at the time and can’t remember if I needed it. How far up the river can you take a 4WD? And is it stupid to leave a vehicle hidden off the track for 5-6 days?

You would need access permission from Mt White (locked gate) to drive up to the Park boundary and walk from there, otherwise you’re walking from the start.

Unless you know someone at the Station I’m doubtful you’ll get it.
