Where can I get me some of these 131gn Blackjacks.

From blackjacks website.(don’t ask me about getting bullets sent to NZ). Started out at a target round but they do soft points. But you need a faster twist barrel to obtain accuracy. 6.5mm has gained huge traction amongst paper punchers so these guys are having a crack with .257 bore. But for me, I’d love to see some higher bc .257 hunting rounds in the 117~125 grain region that don’t require a barrel change.
There’s a Facebook group called 25-06 Remington, lots of typical American rant on it but good for see what loads people are doing that suits their model of rifle etc.
From the outside going to a high bc 25, heavier bullet seems like a good idea but the light ones fully penetrate so what will the heavy's achieve? A drop in velocity, a curvy trajectory and ruining the things that make 25 cals work. 85 grn Barnes at 3800fps is going to be better than a 131 at 2950
I had a play with the 125 gr Matrix bonded bullets, when he was making them, bc of .495 if I recall correctly, shot pretty well in my Sako, but it had two short barrel at 22", and was a bit slow, didn't really see any real advantage and went back to the 110 gr accubond,
Got 195 or so left if any one is interested, 1/2 bonded, 1/2 std jacked cup and core.
Hi Moa hunter, yeah I agree with what you mean [except some 'experts' may argue your last sentence regarding down range results?], I can't see the point of making the 25 perform like a 6.5 as the 6.5 has been well tweaked of the years with numerous subtle variations to the chambering. But it's kinda good the 25 is getting some attention and bullet makers are investing in developing new rounds to keep up with other calibers.

Hi Southernman I bought your sako 25-06 and i'm enjoying it. Last year I was very busy so I didn't get out much but have downed a few reds and Chamois, mostly around 300 metres. I hope to play with a few loads this year so I'm more confident for longer range.
Hi Buzo, I thought it was you, I sold it to, kinda miss having that rifle in the safe, brilliant string of success, I had with it, up until I took it Thar hunting, and asked an Accubond to do at 400m, what I expected at 100m, picked up another used Funlight in 708 and chopped it back to 18", so all set for a stainless sako.
Hope the rifle is treating you well, and your getting out for a stroll,
Your swani is getting a work out, I've got it in Canada, -35 deg here today, and windy as all hell, likely -44 or so with the wind chill, I've been wearing it with a rain jacket over the top, to cut the wind, then overall's overtop, hell of a way to make a living,
Hi nice to hear from you, and I'm glad that swanie is of some use. I don't know how you cope at that temp. day in day out, but i'm sure you'd get bloody well acclimatised for southern alps hunting! I used a few of your accubonds seemed ok, and shot shot a red yearling in the lung at 270~m from memory and he only went 10~15 metres, must of damaged all the right bits? was quite a mess inside. Have changed to hornady 117 but I'm not keen to shoot beyond 350 yet.
I find the 2506 very easy to hit things with. I could see the hit on the spiker but with a higher recoiling calibre I would not. With a 131 gr bullet the recoil will be up to much the same as a 270 with 130's - it will be slightly less because of a slightly lower powder charge at a guess.
High velocity makes the 25's with flat trajectory. The spiker was shot with a 110 AB. Hole straight through so why do I need to go heavier ?. What went wrong with the 400mtr Tahr out of interest @southernman ??
Pretty much the wrong tool, for the job, shot two Thar, both required multiple shots to down, pretty much the accubond, didn't expand hardly at all, at 400-430m, in range, I picked up an expired Accubond, that had passed threw the 2nd Thar, and struck the rock bluff behind, hadn't expanded hardly at all, certainly not past its diameter.
A good old soft point, 115 partion or 117gr Hornardy, would likely have work out much better.
I hadn't been in Thar hunting, on the east side, and took the wrong rifle, my first thought, on driving into the McCauley Valley, was I should have bought the .264 win or 7x57,
I'd say it's more likely that the 2506 put a tiny little hole in it, it ran for 200m and got caught up in that there branch

That's very interesting, the AB is supposed to perform like a partition but obviously didn't. I run the AB's at 3250 - I thought I would get them faster but being a hard bullet they seem to hit pressure sooner than say a Sierra. I have found the 110 AB to generally drop deer on the spot out to 300 which is as far as I have shot them with it.
A friend has shot a reasonable sample of Tahr with Nosler BT's in his 2506 and they have pretty much all plonked on the spot. The furthest being a big bull at 560 mtrs.
My 2506 is really reserved as a Chamois Laser.
Given the very light frame and narrow sectional density of a chamois, I'd be using a more frangible bullet than an AB. I tried all sorts of bullets in my 257 Ackley (similar speed to your 25/06) and had the most success with either 100gr Hornady spire point or 100gr and 115gr Nosler BT's. They all opened up nicely with extensive damage, causing a very quick immobilizing affect.
