Has anyone been up to the block up by Mangawhai heads next to King Rd recently. I was thinking of heading up with a couple of mates in a few weeks to have a look. Any success stories. It looks pretty small. Keen on collecting some goat....

I've wandered those tracks a few times, never armed. Not a particularely big area. It's the beggining of the brenderwyns right?
Ive had a good look around some private land further up and not seen anything much in the way of goats or goat sign. Just pigs and possums.
Still you never know, go have a wander see what happens
IMO Better off heading down to King Country/Waitomo to nail some goats and the odd pig/fallow, as those North Auckland reserves have the cullers go through them every few years.

Yeah it's just conveniently close to a mate of mines place that we will be staying at. It does look small on the maps. Worth a quick check I guess. Cheers for the info guys.
Ended up going out on Saturday. Turns out the hill track was useless. No visibility at all. Very dense all the way through there. We walked about 600m off the track and still very hard to see any good spots. Past a couple of walkers that looked a bit concerned that I was walking along with a loaded AR15 but ya get that. Beautiful country with a clean flowing river at the bottom. Nice to dip the head after 3 hours of walking. Will definitely be heading back to take another look. I had an impatient friend with me who walks like an elephant. lol. Made me realise that I need more gear. Proper GPS device, Chest rig and binocular holder etc. Still for a first time out had heaps of fun. Oh and I might need to invest in a Supressor!

Told ya there are better places, less populated by tramper too.
Give DOC Te Kuiti a call and they will send you in the right direction if you want some goats.

If you are keen for a goat mission to te kuiti rs200, I'd be happy to split some gas and get down there for a wander.
My old family goat spot has since changed owners, and they are keen to keep em for themselves.
Local is always best..as I always did when I lived there.
