And hopefully you managed to knock some hinds over too?
And hopefully you managed to knock some hinds over too?
Just got out of Loch Burn after 10 days. Quiet as a church mouse for most of it. I didn't see a deer the whole time I was in there. Put in big days and covered ground using the wind to our advantage, but the stags were keeping quiet on us, with the exception of the occasional stag moaning early in the morning before light. Couldn't entice any roaring in return. They were certainly about though and we had a deer run though our campsite at night on one occasion and a bunch of them bump into our campsite another night.
Only deer seen was on the Milford road on the way home, when a stag popped out and casually trotted in front of the car then went back into the bush.
I'll chalk that one hunting trip up as a fail, but a good to challenge to myself in difficult terrain!
Hard yards...makes you have a re-think about what your doing sometimes aye.
Hope you crack onto them next trip. Sounds like claymores on the perimeter could have come good for ya
Would have been useful I reckon. When the deer ran right next to the tent I'm not gonna lie, I curled into a ball covering my head. The previous night we could at least hear them approach in the crown fern so were not surprised when they winded us and crashed off, but the next night with the running one just bolted trough without warning was a rude awakening.
The farm red deer near my workplace were roaring like mad this evening. First time ive heard red deer roaring in person so it was pretty cool. They sound like dinosaurs in movies.
I was in Pureora on the weekend. Not a peep. Loads of hunters though.
Yep this weekend might be super busy as well!
Fallow started making some noise yesterday very early
