Has anyone been in the southern block recently, or live not too far away? How dry are conditions down there?
I'm thinking of heading down for a hunt in the next few days but wondering if I'm better to wait until some rain has been through. Hamilton has only had 3mm in the past month, and Taumarunui not much better at 5mm.
But then again, sitting in the bush in a damp gully sounds pretty pleasant, and is probably where the animals are too!

I was in there about a month ago. At the time it was pretty dry and hard to stalk quietly. I don't think it's rained much since. Bumped 6 deer in dense bush over the course of 2 days but was unable to get a safe shot on any of them.

I was there last Saturday, Maramataha river very low & heaps of crunchy windfall. Noisy as walking.

Its 20 min away for me: Corn flakes crunchy at the mo. Crap from the winter storms everywhere.

Yesterdays rain.......well someone else on this forum must have stolen it, as we got 5 8ths of fuckall! Bloody weather forecasters with all their software programs and alogarythms, they'd be better off just looking out the window!

Thanks guys, sounds like it would be best to wait for some rain.

Wait till this coming weeks promised rain goes thru. Haven't been there for 2 weeks, was very dry with heaps of noisy leaf litter, when it gets this warm daylight better than dusk.
