FWIW, and knowing that politics isn't encouraged here, I will only say that Nz First policy is to end the use of aerial 1080 and move to ground based operations such as bait stations and trapping instead.

The $100 million spent on aerial 1080 operations annually at present will provide a sound base for ground operations to be built on, and it is our belief that there is a sustainable possum population level which can be harvested to provide a fur industry while protecting deer and cattle herds from TB vectors.

Not everyone will agree, but that's where we're at.

Well that sounds like a great idea, but NZ First is a waste of your vote.

Here we are living in a country with some of the most clever scientific minds in the world and we have not yet worked out that if we applied a mass aerial drop of a chemical sterilisation bait programme, within the life expectancy period of Possums, and Mustalids we would have achieved a mass eradication. Why is this when the idea has been put out there for some time? Colour me cynical but I reckon it is not because we don't have the science but moreover because there is no will to do it because there is no sustainable income to be had from it.

What more do we need? If we are above ground and breathing the rest is up to us!
Rule 1: Treat every firearm as loaded
Rule 2: Always point firearms in a safe direction
Rule 3: Load a firearm only when ready to fire
Rule 4: Identify your target beyond all doubt
Rule 5: Check your firing zone
Rule 6: Store firearms and ammunition safely
Rule 7: Avoid alcohol and drugs when handling firearms

Only as it is a per kill profit based operation.

A salaried trapping system would fix that.

I think all the hunters should form voluntary troops and shootout/trap the areas that get 1080 drop. (firearm safety & ethical hunting practice taken in consideration - so please no crap on that) - The 100 million per year or whateva the allocation may be for the area can be used by the troops for this work. (for ammo, food, flyin etc etc ). Has this kinda thing neva been negotiated.

I guess we would be on a win-win situation if approved to do so by getting the opportunity to do what we like doing the best while eliminating the 1080 issue as well.

90% of the hunters that go bush couldn't hunt/shoot for shit...the other 10% are made up of the dedicated few and the lucky one's...what you envisage would require the whole population of this country to take up hunting.

its more the point that 1080 kills deer and many our living things. so with out saying we target deer they find a excuse to bomb an area siting TB or biodiversity to reduce deer numbers. secondly if ground control was done deer wouldn't be targeted and thirdly someone in government or closely linked to government has a invested interest in using 90% of all 1080 manufactured and making a fuck load of money. Epro seam to rain heaps of this shit on the bush maybe a link there behind closed doors. how many years has 1080 been used yet the problem remains the same. to find a alternative one first needs to look for it

Isn't that unfortunate. They are a pretty good bunch of guys down there though.
The crew that were there when I hunted the area helped on more than one occasion to rid the campsite of alcohol.
