the auckland presidency is well and truly up for grabs Tommy - if you took it up you can start to turn the ship in another direction

There's an alternative shooting club opening up nearby, with much better facilities. The NZDA Akl branch gets roughly 50% of its income from range fees, and the other half from subs. As soon as this other shooting club opens, NZDA range attendance will pancake, and I believe memberships will drop too, as people realize that, for roughly the same coin, getting access to a range 2 Sundays a month vs. 7 days a week, is a no-brainer. The range facilities were a major drawcard for this branch, as it's a city branch, and very few people have access to casual shooting facilities within 2+ hours of Akl CBD. With income substantially reduced, I believe the club will wither and die quite quickly. There is also uncertainty re the local Iwi taking ownership of Riverhead forest, where the NZDA range is located.

OK . Macca tagged me. I will comment briefly.
NZDA NATEX has through many years developed certain codes of conduct, policies and stances which have devolved through national AGMs. Some branches have chosen to ignore some of these or put them in the "too hard basket"; not wanting to fight government bureaucracies or worse. (Admittedly, some of the edicts were a bit over the top, and for myself, when I was heavily engaged in meat hunting for money, I withdrew from membership during that period.
This leads to disjointed and non alignment of central objectives of the association as a whole and a less than fully focussed movement to enhance the recreation of big game hunting. People don't want to get into shit fights with their hunting mates, so many simply walk away or transfer to another branch which they believe is better at supporting the overall national association interests. Small closed administrative admin groups within clubs are part of the problem, but in essence I think the whole association needs to harden up in many respects if it is to succeed in maintaining it's core objectives, which should still primarily centre on enhanced and recognised and protected wild deer management and deer hunting availability nationwide. There remains major conflict with government in this regard.

@Woody very good comments. However your last bit should refer to wild game animals nationwide, we South Islanders have the chamios & tahr that need to be in that loop. I'm sure that's what you really meant anyway.

Auckland Shooting Club $460.00 p/a plus $115.oo joining fee, $575.oo for the first year. NZDA $120.oo plus $50.oo joining fee plus $10.oo range fee when you feel the need to zero your rifle before a hunting trip.

The cost? It's a dollar difference per day. If you veiw it terms of opportunities to go shooting, 2 days a month vs open most of the time, the value is obvious.

I hunt, but I also participate in various other shooting sports. If I wanted to be a part of OMNI too (and a B is on my to do list, long overdue) the fees of $$320 per year added to the NZDA fees, we're now talking pretty much the same coin. So yes, the new club is well worth it to me. I'm pretty sure their newsletter isn't going to have bits ratfucking what other people do with their guns either.
@LOC, I plan to be involved and donate time to the sport, only not for the NZDA. Took me a while to decide what I was going to do, but two conversations in the past week with former committee members of the branch (who are also more than a little fucked off with auckland), certainly helped me reach my decision.

If the magazine and the retirement home type committee members are the problem, maybe the persons concerned, young or old need to take charge and use their free time to be the driving force of the operation. Maybe this thread has out used it use by date as the original thread was the magazine. In my opinion ditch the hard cover and move to the modern age. K

    (1) Why put it back on them all the time? .. your arms and legs painted on? (2) Don't we think there's a good reason why all of the successful magazines stay in hardcopy? Why do we think that is? As NZ Jetboating Committee Members have said "our magazine is part of our heritage .. we wouldn't touch it (in terms of canning it, or going digital) without a referendum of all members". Don't throw the baby out with the bath water. Let the Membership collectively decide. SMH.

I'd love to see the fine print on the NZDA hunter's insurance. I have the AIG policy page, but not the details.
