Really enjoyed that! Low key, no fuss, or bells and whistles. You did the hard work and were rewarded. What a country we live in where a hunt like that is possible, and accessible. Makes me want to get back up into the high country asap.
@MattyR I found that very inspirational, mean hikoi!
The way you slept in the tussock and staked that stag out was hard as, not many people could do that without any validation, fuss and/or support .
What caliber was the Tikka and how far was the shot in the end?
I’m booking the ferry tomorrow and I’m going to do a similar mission, a bit further north than where you went.
Kia kaha, you’re dam right about the heart and mind!
Kia ora brother, i love testing my abilities, and its awesome showing my young fulla, and give him a push too give it heaps in what ever his passion is gonna be, (hes finally keen as on hunting )lol so thats cool.
The caliber is 300 win mag, and shot him at 430y, never really been keen on, long or medium range, we grew up bush hunting since 5 years old with the old man so pretty new to me, but in saying that iv done some practice and no my limits, definitely gives you a advantage in the open country.. 550y max for me, but conditions need to be spot on otherwise ill try get closer, or not shoot at all.
Good luck on your mission bro, have a good time im away looking for a fallow buck the next 4 days, if your ever passing flick me a pm and call in for a cuppa. Kia kaha kia haumaru, Happy hunting
Nice one!
