Theres a difference between culling and taking a cull stag but 100% agree I'd struggle to take a deer based on it looking too red but antler structure in a middle aged animal is a bit of a different story. Anything sub 4 would get benefit of the doubt. Even the 8 I'd give benefit of the doubt. But a stag/bull with only one weak bez (in an area renowned for strong Bezs), only one trez and only one point on one top making an uneven 6 point head would probably be enough to give me reason to think he was a fine animal to take. Although I like these guys might think about leaving him atleast until I've hunted the area a little bit more for a bigger more mature specimin so no hate. It's all theory on my behalf as I wasnt there and didn't see him in person.

I think FWF have to remove a certain number of animals each year. If hunters shoot the “culls” then FWF have to shoot other animals to make up numbers. Unless hunter animals are included in the FWF number.

Its much easier to consider what could of, should of or would of in hindsight (excuse the pun) but it comes down to the call on the day. Believe me, I love smashing donks but in the WAP zone Im happy being more conservative.

Great reminder of how hard hunting can be in Fiordland. It’s not all tops hunting in some blocks. Hats off to Dave the cameraman for getting as much footage in difficult conditions. The fishing and diving made up for the lack of “trophy” stags/bulls. That block seems to have a strong leaning to red blood lines.

"My mistake I thought it was a stoney creek and stabicraft ad" - Unlike the bulk of NZ made shows, we don't get a dollar from the taxpayer, and neither do the guys at NZ Hunter Adventures. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to have NZ on Air or Te Mangai Paho funding us, but the reality is we both have sponsorship based business models, so advertising our partners within the show is the nature of the beast.
Whip in a bit of Te Reo and Bobs your uncle for funding bro. Ka pai.

Another thing, and I notice NZ HA does this too, why oh why do you do describe in yards and inches?
We went metric in 1976, before most of the RSTHC lads were born!
Is it to appeal to the American market?

RST Hunters Club - New Series

MOA scopes, probably outnumber mil scopes 10-1 in hunting terms.
And horned and antlered beasts have always been measured in inches. A 1270mm wapiti trophy sounds ridiculous.

It’s for the benefit of us oldies that grew up on feet, yards, miles, lb etc and realize that metrics is but a passing fad!

What an awesome spot to go from hunting to diving and fishing so quickly.
