    Ruahine aerial deer culling

Been hearing a few people talk about, and seen a few comments and posts regarding aerial shooting of deer in the ruahine ranges. Has anyone heard the same and/or know where this information can be found. I know there are 1080 drops planned in the northern ruahines but have yet to find any information on where the aerial culling or deer management hunts will be. Cheers

Is there official notification of culling? Often pine control work gets mistaken for deer control and chopper is working the faces and gulleys low.

I have heard the chat as well via the Ruahine users group, haven't seen anything official yet.

Hi all I have been in contact with DOC 'Senior Wild Animals Advisor'

He has confirmed that the 1080 in the North Ruahine is postponed for 6 months.

As far as aerial culling etc he is still working on a deer management plan so nothing set in stone. The local NZDA is going to be leading a deer management hunt in the near future and will be dropped into 5 helicopter landing sites that arent normally accessible and they will get a better idea on deer number and condition.

Local hunters involved and aerial shooting will be confirmed.

I’d doubt there is aerial culling on the Ruahines. There are WARO operators in the park but I wouldn’t think there’s any money in that either.
I’ve seen no correspondence from Hastings NZDA either regarding hunter access but I’d be interested to know.

The range of what we think and do is limited by what we fail to notice. And because we fail to notice that we fail to notice, there is little we can do to change; until we notice how failing to notice shapes our thoughts and deeds
