It was, but very unclear what they were actually asking us to do other than provide an email address which they already have.

Done, Just seems almost unbelievable, unregulated free-for-all on freshwater fisheries?? surely the ramifications for guiding industry/tourism,the International bad look etc would pull the rug out from under it.

Rest of the world: I bet you couldn't take NZ from a bucket list trout fishing destination to somewhere that isn't on most world maps...

Apologies for the slightly political snipe!

Went out for a beer with a mate and some of his mates recently. All in their forties, keen hunters and saltwater fishermen. Somehow the subject of trout came up and all of them thought there was no place for trout in NZ. I'm sure some people on this forum take the same view. I obviously don't agree, but the rights/wrongs of this discussion is not the point. This kind of thinking is becoming more prevalent, if not the mainstream view. I doubt F&G scraping together a few pennies from licence holders will hold out against concerted political pressure for very long. Let's hope we get a change of government.

Done - again somewhat doubtful what difference it will make. Especially as so much is rammed through under urgency and minimal or ignored consultation, just agenda driven. However I don't want to turn this into a politics debate, but appreciate awareness being raised!

@MB - agree to some extent that trout are exotic, but what about beef and sheep? It is exactly the same. Same with kiwifruit, grapes and apples. Somehow, if we cultivate the exotic bovid/ovid behind a fence, it's magically different from taking an exotic fish from an unfenced stream. We need to look at things holistically. The benefit of the trout fishery to NZ is huge, and in terms of looking after water quality, an added bonus.
