Man I'd hate to be on a stall if all the punters were cruising around pissed
I'm not quite sure where this all came from. But there were three stalls selling alcohol but drinking on site wasn't allowed other than a tiny taster to try some of the products. There was Ruahine ports who had been attending the Sika show for years I remember them at the Taupo show. Then there was some gin manufacturer and another one selling a selection. All very civilised and no one getting drunk.
OT
Last time I was in the Spa Hotel was on Saturday of the weekend Norman Kirk died, 1974.
A mate and I met up with some Taupo bushmen he knew from his woodchopping comps.
They wouldn't let us buy any grog. They were buying a wooden crate of Lion Brown big bottles at a time, all with the tops removed. I thought I was going to drown.
The old place had atmosphere. No idea what it's like now. IIRC it may have been badly flooded since I was there.
Old Mr Bernie and his wife would call on me in the 80s at Fletchers in Carterton. He used to pocket book timber all round New Zealand.
I had a few sessions there in the lat 60s with my mates on Holiday in Taupo
Boom, cough,cough,cough
I went along to the Sika Show yesterday and it was good fun!
Spent a bit, not too much, and saw some very cool things.
Not many 'real deals' noticed, but we can't always be tight bushmen.
Don't know about the top Sika Head Score but saw a marvellous mounted Fallow Head on display which I swooned over. Definitely the best NZ Fallow Head I have ever seen. Massive, symmetrical paddles that would make a moose weep!
It's one thing to have a couple of beers and chat with mates it's another thing to get plastered and act a fool. If you can have 2 beers and still drive home or even in this country it's not illegal to have a beer while you drive I don't see what's so bad about having a beer at a show like this . Your not using the firearms like at a range where I would suggest not drinking until after the range is closed but I really can't see anything wrong with having a beer or two catching up with mates at an event like this .

@phil243 it’s the PC world we now live in, the weekends we had in Taupo were really great. The shows were great, the exhibits awesome.
I don’t know about this year, I didn’t attend, but last years show was, to my mind, controlled by the police. Compared to Taupo, it had changed dramatically, it’s amazing how Tarrant changed our world
Boom, cough,cough,cough
Yea I can't agree more . Last year I went and said I wasn't going to go back but I did go back and this year was much better . The world is very PC now . It's a real shame. The few keep ruining things for the many. In saying it was much better I still think it was better at taupo.
