Thread: Sleeping bag vs quilt

You would be surprised how good quilts are.
If you are unzipping your bag most of the time a quilt may be better for you.

buy an oversized or xl sleeping bag and you wont feel constrained the same either..absolutely love my macpac one...took my old cheap bag the other week and nearly ripped it by keeping shoulders in.... ended up sleeping like used to do with arms out.... with my XL macpac bag I can COMFORTABLY sleep completely zipped up mummy style when its really cold or lots of mozzies around.
also clever feature is two vips..so can leave foot box zipped up and have it opened out like duvet...thats how I sleep at home in afternoon before a night shift...feet stay warm and bag doesnt slide off the bed.

my XL sleeping bag squishs down to smaller than soccer ball...lol BUT you are right..no matter how small,they still seem to take up a heap of room.

Yeah MD, Im a fan of stuffing sleeping gear puffers and clothes into a bag liner/dry bag first. Then heavy gear. More efficient use of space than hundreds of seoarate compression strapped dry bags for every item... like stacking bowling ball bags!

Also have an Elightened but got cold on a trip once and rarely use it now. Admittedly wasn’t summer
With just a pad between you and the ground it can get to your bones pretty quick

What rating do you have? They come with many fill options.

I run mine on a xthurm and find its a great combo

It’s the Enigma 10F model which I think is -12C
Took it on a winter hunt and had to wear my pants / jacket etc
It is very comfortable though and by far the softest of my sleeping bags. My Mont Bell would be a close second, super nice to sleep in

Nice man think mines the 0 or -20 or something like that. I as told there ratings are preddy bs and to go a lot colder so went off down fill.

I have an enlightened equipment quilt, really like it. Haven’t been cold yet. Weighs bugger all and packs down really small.
