hard case, I think my father and I were up on the Rangi tops that same event. Woke up in the morning to enough snow that I had to come back a week later to find half the gear wed left laying around our tent.

yep that's nice weather, the human zoo of people in the big city erases all desire to visit though unfortunately.

I wonder if snow at this time will effect the fawn survival rate for the season or if most are old enough now to make it through.

Yep. It's all these idiots falling for the "we must plant more trees to save the planet" bullshit.
    They've over done it.
Better get out and cut a few down.
Regarding fawn survival, they are mostly up and running with mum, so should be hardy enough to handle it.

Quite a few of the Sika don't end up having fawns until later in December. Seen a couple of hinds a week before Christmas that were heavily pregnant.
End of the day it's mother nature's form of population control.

    Heavily pregnant or pot bellied?
I've seen a lot of sika hinds (triple figures) over the last couple of weeks and most of them have fawns running with them already.
Where I've been it's been a high fawning percentage. Unfortunately.

    Pregnant.
Shot a couple with fawns in them too.
Yeah where I was was is the opposite so might have something to do with it. Not super high fawning rate I don't think. Eaten themselves out of feed so probably effects the fawning rate a bit.
All beech country with the odd small clearing.

That was before Christmas as per the first reply too, probably all born by now I would think.
