Thread: South Big Glory - Stewart Island

Gidday all,

Myself and a handful of others are heading to the South Big Glory block on Stewart Island in May.

Just wondering what anyone that has been to this block (no hut) did for water? Is there a nearby creek that is drinkable or should we be carting our water in on the water taxi? I realise it’s May and the chance of rain is extremely high but on the off chance we get a week without rain.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Theres a small creek running close to the campsite. You've got a wee climb to get from waters edge to camp site. A dinghy would be very useful to you guys to get about the block and fishing etc.

As Ghosts said, small creek on the east side near camp. Was a alkathene pipe coming down the hill but didn't seem to do anything when I was last there. Also bought some water just in case.

We have 4 groups going to Stewart island end of Feb including 1 group on South Big Glory, will update on state of pipe when we get back. As mentioned above by ghosts, dinghy is handy to move around as well as to get a fish in.
