A couple of sika stags I shot Thursday and Friday. I gave up trying to chase roaring redstags, as they were silent at the two places i tried.

And i think a PB 9 pointer. Its very long but not wide. I actually thought it was a big long 6 or 4 as i was shooting it.

Stag I hind called with the odd roar in to 15m away on Wednesday down masterton ways. Pretty quiet roar wise while I was down, nothing super fired up but got this stag pretty noisy and excited on my 2nd to last day. On my last morning hunt saw a big old 14 that gave me the slip, next time!

Picked up my first public land Sika this morning. Heard at least 30+ different animals going mental, lots of heehaws and single calls. Nothing roaring over night and not starting until 730-8am and going until 3pm. Nothing up high, all the animals we heard were in creeks and stream heads assuming this is because it’s so dry up high.

Also leaving Clement’s this evening less than 20 cars parked up, where is everyone? Was like tent city last year

Nice 11 point public land stag who gave me the slip last weekend. He wasn't so lucky this time.
He has weak tops and a bez stub on one side. Not sure if more age would have made him any better? Anyone want to take a stab at how old he is?
Been looking in this area several weeks now and nothing else of note to be seen. Deer seem to all be down low and a lot more quiet/less active now than last week.

Also stumbled across 2 dead young 6 point stags shot through the neck and left there in tact. Looked to be within the last week.... Not sure why someone would do that. Maybe why there was not much roaring going on this week.

A scrubby wee ruahines red and a nice sika (in the magazine thread) inconsistent roaring action on the reds for me and non existent on the japs but go a couple of results with plenty of other deer seen, all in the bush.
