Many years ago I took a walk to the top of Mt Anglem, cant remember which hut we went from. Great walk, but holy hell, get off the track to go have a look in places and its thick! But I saw deer sign all the way to just short of the top. Have also walked the old Freshwater track through the middle, with all the swamp. great walk and plenty of deer seen.

The young chap from Taupo H'n'F shot a 12 point red in the middle of the island maybe 15 years back from memory? Ended up on the cover of a mag

just heard of group tramping on island who reportedly saw deer every day and into 3 figures for the week.....take from that what you will
had another mate see more than you wouldfit on back of ute n trailer on short night time drive n look session...it would have to be short as roads arent that long.

My record is 17 in the headlights in an hour or so, have heard of 23, and that individual animals not double ups.

All depends on the time of year and where the grass is growing
