Rabbits are active at night, the torch is to lock them down on the spot when they see a bright light they will sit there same principle apply to frogs or birds at night, even wolfs. You got your own land, then a shotgun is better than .22 and as far as I recall that rabbits are not very sensitiveness to the sound of motor vehicles at the range you can aim them down.
