Anyone had / having much success hunting Sika at present? Had a good look around one of my good Kaimanawa/Tongariro spots last weekend - very dry and very little sign.
It being pretty hot, are they all in the creek beds?

Got a yearling a couple weekends back off clements, definitely a bit dry in places. Seemed to be a few animals about
Yep I've shot a few in the bush in southern kaimanawas this year.
I noticed they were higher up the hills than I usually shoot them. Most were mid to top third of the hill. Crunchy dry on the spurs and ridges but still huntable.
Plenty of sign around the Kaipo river over the last month or so, particularly down low.
Up high and in the open in the kaweka's last weekend.
As @Roarless20 mentioned, In the creek heads - mid to top third you will eventually get onto the buggers... if they dont get onto you first with it being so dry at the moment can be hard stalking
Very dry atm and being so hot they are quite strict on their first and last light timings atm I have found
Southern Kaimanawas: VERY DRY.
Boys are way up high, into all the herbs etc for calcium and the greener tussock grasses for fat.
Girls and yearlings are down on the lower bush edge, and high altitude river/creek flats. Other than the dopy yearlings that were out 2 hours prior to dark, they were only coming out when just on dark, or hours later.
LOTS of sign on those high altitude creek flats, but horribly lumpy, ankle twisting ground, esp when you have dropped an animal on last light
Shot to sika in kawekas over weekend, saw 15.
