    No different from the last lot of devious crooks. Just carrying on in the same vein because they think they can get away with it. New Zealanders are dumb not to be fighting them tooth and nail. Same General Manager in DoC as in the past several years. We and govt ministers are being run by devious senior civil servants in these sectors instead of the other way round. A lot secretive shit planned well in advance by these dicks, including adjustments to Acts designed to negate court actions by the public.

    That's right Woody the politicians of all party's seem to believe what the senior civil servants tell them, and its been happening for thousands of years all over the world.

    They could at least be more constructive instead of just kill them all , instead of blasting 3000 why not shoot 2600 & leave 400 bulls

    That doesn't leave any breeding stock. Tahr are a huge asset to our country and should be managed as a valuable recreational and plentiful and accessible resource. I recall when DoC forced the removal of the magnificent bronze Tahr statue. Their attitude is crap.

    Civil servants are doing what they are told to do by there paymasters..and I’m not talking about whatever flavour of political party that’s currently at the pig trough..

    Interesting analogy I’ve read somewhere about secret police...not a exact quote but it goes along these lines “whenever there a regime change our uniform will change but we still stay the same” was referring to the Chekist (sp) secret police changing to the KGB....

    As far as I can remember @Tahr, there was a beautiful bronze statue of a Tahr placed alongside a main road access to Mt Cook ? National Park. DoC forced the removal of it from the park boundaries because it did not fit with DoC policy of extermination of introduced organisms from National Parks. Must've been over 10 years ago this happened. I was disgusted about DoC's actions then , and ever since.

    The machinations of Yes Minister/prime minister while funny are real and probably very accurate. Pollies come and go but the civil servants are there.
    Just like the Borg-we will assimilate-reistance is futile.

    @Tahr. That sounds about right.
    A major concern I have had for several years has been the attempts by DoC to rename (read "reclassify" )the RHA's and Forest Parks that were originally set up by Ralph Naylor (NZFS Ranger training CEO for many years), into so-called "Conservation Parks" and thus ruled by very similar regulation and policy as national parks. I wrote an extensive submission to the Governor General at the time because DoC was blindly ignoring public objections. However, DoC continues to be devious and imo still pursuing it's same agenda by changing status of lands it administers thus justifying the extermination of introduced game animals. WARO and aerial poison are simply convenient tools for them to meet those objectives.

    Without being familiar with the landscape around Tahr management, I suspect the most effective (and perhaps only?) recourse available will be to see if this recent cull breaches the Tahr Plan, and the associated annual control plans that (used to be?) published?

    The target is a population of 10,000 Tahr

    Can those paper pushers count that high? I mean they are smart enough to not need to use their fingers but not smart enough to see the value of these animals to NZ. My understanding is this is the only place you can hunt Tahr in the world, and that their presence in their original habitat is threatened.

    How will Doc react if Tahr become an endangered animal in their original habitats? I mean to say its not like they are eating our bird life and threatening our native species.....
