not just shoot them all and let god sort the good bulls from the cannon fodder.from whati know about helicopter hunting thier close enough to be semi selective.
its still fuckin criminal that they,l be left to rot on the hill cos the game meat indusatry was bummed to death.
we import coal from indonesia cos its cheaper than ours and now the bottom line is part of energy co,s every consideration.

Just got given the latest UK Feild Sports game shooting, fishing & hunting magazine.
Here’s a good article on the situation makes the Government look like total amateurs. Also how to spit on our ancestors. Name: 7FE9F674-82D2-4D98-9111-0E078DF17DAA.jpeg

Like some of the facts in the story.
1 longest journey of an alpine animal at that time!
2 Ammunition supplies refused to supply ammunition for the cull.
3 Hunters trying to save an animal that is prolific in our land from extinction, that is caused by the command of a GREEN PARTY PARLIAMENT MEMBER (Not really a like fact, but is a fact)!
4 She attend the Sika show looking for a publicity stunt, in where she would be abused by the hunting fraternity! She failed! We didn’t play the game she wanted and we came out united!

Guys make no mistake, the world is watching what goes on in little old NZ, be strong because this internet social media thing it’s sliding and people are getting stick of it.
Do as we did at my post 4! Keep that moral high ground! Be that good keen man/woman. Because at the end of the day the silent majority hold what you and I believe to be true. Not the minority that have snuck in on an under card!

Just had another read of that.
    I missed this.
“But it is equally clear- by the department’s own admission- that no plant species has ever gone extinct because of tahr.

Critically, the Game Animal Council- the statutory body set up to provide advice on these issues- was not involved in the decision. “

I was surprised that guides have gone from a "scant dozen or so to 10 times that and more". Thats a lot of pressure on a limited public resource- this magnified by the fact Tahr will be culled back toward the statutorily agreed population.

Bulls worth $14,000!! Hope it doesn't end up like fisheries where shortages often end up in recreational restrictions.

    https://www.doc.govt.nz/globalassets...-responses.pdf

There is some good reading in here to gain a little further context to the issue. I was a little surprised the population estimate (35K)doesn't include pastoral lease land.

Tahr have appeared on pastoral lease land well outside the feral range and DoC has struggled for access to control Tahr on these lands.

I can't decipher if it's 28 lease holds have Tahr outside the the feral range or there is 28 lease holds with Tahr?

Some 2600 Tahr had been culled already this year just prior to the eruption of Tahrmageddon- part of the annual population management DoC undertake. When was the ammo ban due to take effect?

Minister to GAC Chair- "I am concerned at the current high number of Tahr and have asked DoC to commence Tahr culling operation as soon as practicable. You can expect the culling operation to continue while the plan is being developed"

"Work with DoC to- bring the Tahr population back down to within the limits of the 1993 Himalayan Tahr Control Plan- and then maintain it once the herd is back under control" - this letter isn't dated but the minister also discusses she intends providing the GAC $200,000 government funding for 2018-19, so I'll assume this was written well prior to the eruption of Tahrmageddon?

Critically - what has the GAC done in the last five years in relation to the Tahr population?

Still lucky here in NZ despite the cull.

Yesterday my working day started at 3am.
Milked my 1200 cows, cleaned the shed, put some fences up, mowed a paddock, turned the pivots on, handed the farm over to my 2IC at lunchtime.

Drove up the river, shot 3 thar and was home moving a herd by 6.30pm
Lets keep it that way eh

Why would you want to make a paddock? Are you making hay or silages?

If people did one requirement of a permit and reported to doc their kill sheet less Thar would be culled.

I know that certain minority organisations have our best interests at heart yet need support from rec hunters.
Most don't seem to understand they have an influence.
