Tahr foundation petition and court action

Tahr foundation running a petition and presenting a court action to halt Docs cull plans. Get in and sign. Please don't donate via the change website, if you want to donate do it directly to the tahr foundation. Try and stop Forest and Bird from wrecking yet another resource without any science, study or due process.

    Here we go :

As I’m sure you will be aware, the Department of Conservation has released its draft tahr control operation plan for the coming year.

As National’s spokesperson for Conservation, I thought it would be useful for me to outline my position on this control operation.

I am opposed to Conservation Minister Eugenie Sage giving DOC license to spend taxpayers’ money culling prized Himalayan Bull Tahr.

I believe the Minister is making the same mistakes she made in 2018, where she also tried to enact a large-scale cull unsuccessfully. She has failed to strike a balance where conservation values are protected and hunting interests are maintained.

The commercial tahr hunting industry contributes $17 million to the economy and provides valuable jobs. The Conservation Minister should be mindful of the businesses that rely on this resource and have already suffered through the effects of Covid-19.

Once the border re-opens guided hunting operators need to be able to offer these premium experiences again.

Recreational and commercial hunters have collectively reduced herd numbers by 18,000 over the past three years. The Minister should leave bull tahr in particular to hunters alone.

Protecting New Zealand’s indigenous biodiversity is incredibly important, as is maintaining a sustainable hunting resource for recreational and commercial hunters on both private and public land.

National believes that tahr numbers need to be sensibly managed but operations should be done in a targeted way. Conservation decisions should be based on science not ideology.

    Kind Regards,

    Jacqui

Hay this could be good timing you just never know your luck especially so close to the elections and a bunch of us willing to vote for Act , the focus should be stopping the cull and cementing our deer , tahr , chammy as game animals not pests .

Geez that petition is has taken off nearly 7k in a few hours .

Too right mate I think its time us hunters banded together to vote for a party that will represent us,together we have more grunt than anyone realises. How many hunters are out there?more than 10% of the vote id say,I don't know the best way but if we can unite we can cement nz as a hunters paradise before things get taken away from us inch by inch until its to late cos once it happens its not going to go back to the way it was.

I am so fucking sick of this bunch. F&B are a cancer and with Sage and her massive conflict of interest hunters are going to be constantly fighting her. Why don't they put that money into fighting wilding pines or something actually useful

I know very little about the high country private leases and concessions. How does this work?

Come on you lot , time to stump up some more of your hard earned cash again , I don't know about you but personally iv had enough of making things easy for these pricks , for the price of a box of beer it will make the difference , if everyone that has signed the petition puts $20 or $30 into the foundation they will have enough money to show Sage and her mates we will not simply roll over and come election time give them a reeming via our vote .

Well the businesses that rely on this resource are about to get a large injection of cash in the form of tax payers money - very timely with the election coming up.

It is a Win-Win for the Greens !!

The 17 million is way off. Commercial hunting in NZ contributes 50 million to the economy and the tourisim ministry thinks it is as high as 100 million.
