Takapari road - deer fence in the middle of the bush?

Was roaming through the bush on the weekend in the flat section to the right of the bush road, probably about 1.5km up and ran into a deer fence randomly. Anyone know what it's for? I found one corner of it but didn't bother chasing the end, but it seems too deep into the bush to just be farming protection? And I can't see any conservation areas online, and the area is marked as an open hunting zone. If there is a deer gate with remains of trip wire release ( rabbit trap nailed to a post ) or a drop gate setup then it's an old live capture trap. Good place for a hunt

Far more likely to be a deer exclusion plot. Won't have a trip gate. Possibly no gate at all.

Deer capture plots in that area were normally on the edge of bush to farmland interfaces. Ya gotta be able to cart the live deer out to make a buck, anad carting something thrashing around that far into bush would have proven problematic.

If its around a clearing it will be an old trap. If its just random bush it will be an exclusion plot.

I haven't found that one but know where there are 2 others in the pohangina valley & they are exclusion plots if you jump over & have a look at the plants they will all be nb with a tag on bigger trees & the smaller ones have a peg besides them that's if someone hasn't pilled them all out they measure some on the out side to compare what damage the deer are doing to the bush

Cheers everyone, sounds like a deer exclusion plot from everyone's descriptions. Might jump over at some point and check out the flora

Vegatation plots were put in the bush by the Forest Research Institute (FRI) throughout the 70,s and 80,s.
A way of comparing browse from outside the enclosure with inside of the enclosure.

    Hey mate
There 3 of them along there the weather and bush has delt to them over time, the first one still has a sign on it they were fully enclosed to keep possums out to study the damage, you can still see the roofs in places

They are dotted all over the Ruahines. There used to be one up the Kawhatau I recall.
    In the Kawekas too.
History being lost. Evidenced by people thinking they were maybe deer traps.

There’s one at north whetu in the kawekas, very obviously an exclusion zone.
