I think the tech has its uses and place. But if you have followed any of my posts, I have often put forth my fears and wishes for it. Mostly in that we use it wisely and with respectable self control.

To paraphrase a favourite author and poem of mine. "if you can use tech, and not make tech your master.''............. Yours is the Earth and everything that’s in it,
And—which is more—you’ll be a Man, my son!"

I consider myself to be very lucky. I can remember a time before the internet (unlike my son), but not so old that it's all scary and unfathomable (like my dad). It's a wonderful tool when used for good.

Initially I had no interest in the internet. resisted it and thought people who spent all their time on it were idiotic. Then I met this older bugger in the middle of the Ruahines, dragging a couple of young guys around. He told me about this thing called a hunting forum where hunters got around and organised hunts and shared stories etc.

Thought that dont sound too bad so went and bought a second hand laptop, worked out how to use it, and found the old forum.

Quite a few people think you have a lot to answer for @Tahr!

come on now. it is public land and anyone can film it and upload.

However it is stupid to advertise your spot to the whole world. just plain old foolishness!

Fishing is the same, targeting your fish etc. Look at drones, everything is replaced with technology.
We even have a wheel and fire

Fishing.... Rod or handline is fishing.a net is harvesting. Still catching fish but the sport is sort of removed...it's still hunting fish to some degree,a thrown/cast net is definitely hunting of fish... They all taste the same.

When I watch a hunting video I always hope the animal gets away especially a big stag, I don't like watching hunting videos so I don't.
Maybe its because people seem to boast about their kills like the animals life means nothing, yet when I'm out hunting I'm really focussed on getting an animal.

First time I’d seen thermal used for finding animals, geeze that’s a joke for scanning large areas of land, “yep there’s something there, give me the Binos and we will identify it”

I guess there’s something to be said for the new tech giving people more success early on which keeps them in the game.

As Ive had more success in open country, Ive moved to more challenging bush terrain with lower tech. This keeps the thrill factor going whenever you do still manage to get a deer. I would love to one day be competent enough to get a deer with a bow close range.

If I hadn’t of had the help of the technology early on and had some success I would probably have just got totally demoralised and given up hunting. Going straight to bush hunting with a bow would be almost out of the question especially given the quite limited time I actually get out in the hills. Really have enjoyed going on a slow reverse technology journey!
