If plans go ahead to rebuild huts ive offered roofing iron at a cheaper rate than normal .
Condition apply to huts only .Its a start to rebuild the lines of contact .
It may or may not work and its a gamble .

Go you good thing!
That’s awesome mate! Good on ya!
I was bitching about all this to a mate and his take on it was that it would be super easy to get a couple of portable cabin companies onto the job and just fly in huts that are far nicer and far less maintenance.
Not a bad idea really
I'm sure this forum alone could do a better job at replacing the huts then what Tuhoe will do.
problem is , the huts have to be nz building code compliant now , and have to fly in inspectors etc. (well doc ones do) so massive compliance costs to add on. they end up costing a fortune.
Old ones don't . New ones do.
Interesting this.
I’m a member of a hut group on f/b.
I had a go at them about an increasing mentality huts must be modern with Ali joinery etc otherwise they are pits that no one should have to sleep in.
I got utterly lambasted for even suggesting that an uninsulated hut with open fireplace had a place in nz going forward.
Iv always thought that shipping containers would make great hits with some linings & some windows & a door bunks at one end that go right across so you can squash more people on bunks if need be a small fire at other end the n put a veranda down the long side for gear then just fly the hole thing in with big chopper
I have good contacts in the park so that goes along way ,plus the locals have seen my offer for roofing iron. This was also a thank you to them for giving me access through Maungapohatu farm for hunting .
Anyone else see these huts made from water tanks.

Fully insulated, solar and easily flown into any location.

Yes, have been in them in alpine conditions, and they work well. Little tiny fire or RV diesel heater in them. But in the bush they would look like a space ship, about as out of place as you could make something.
