Well if the building is less than 30m2 (?) inspections are no longer required and the only obligation is that it is build to code?

The perception has always been that the 2m/annum DOC funding for hut and track maintenance has never been sufficient. I guess this is a TUT response to this.

I can't see the huts replaced any time soon if at all. I'm waiting for the whakatane river to open for hunting again though aren't holding my breath.

Just listened to Paul Michaels latest podcast with Josh James.

Couple of things got me thinking.
Doc are concerned about the impact a large number of people going bush will have on the environment.
They’re also underfunded and trying to avoid spending money on huts.
    1+1 = remove the huts…..

Also, he mentioned that a doc guy had told him Te Urewera is something of a test case for things to come.

So watch this space people, and get out there and enjoy the huts while we still have them.

@Ned. An interesting " Wellington speak " document. I was intrigued by the usage of two words though. Partner and collaborate. Entirely different meanings and one definitely outweighs the other. Just an observation on my part.

@Longrun. I strongly suspect that a wily old politico from up my way might have something to say about that. He , too, is not a fan of co-governance. Isn't it curious though, people do tend to cringe in fear of the racist card being waved.

Peter's is a dead duck. He had his big shot and was curiously quiet.

There are a number of 'cards' being weaponised and used to prioritise minority views. I think the ability to talk about what is actually happening is long lost.

Assuming you're not a fan @Longrun, I'm not either. However I expect that Winnie will ride the MMP vehicle with aplomb. We've got another 12 months unless Cindy snaps it. If I was a betting man I'd place odds on Luxon/Seymour with Winnie, again, causing more than just a bit of angst. Politics eh.

Oh yep, such as it is. I will bet $50 he doesn't win a seat next year and sell you a tang safety Ruger M77 if you like though.

@Longrun. Just to be clear, if NZ First doesn't win a seat? If so you're on. Hanging for that tang safety job.

Never, never underestimate Winnie. Think of him what you like, but he keeps politicians honest.

Winston Peters knows just the right things to say, but once bitten, twice shy. I voted for him once and got a Labour government. Never again!
