Thread: Thermal Night Shooting Gear - Pard NV007

Hello - I've been looking at the UK guys videos of this gear ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SF_7du0HGLg) . . . . and wondering. We do a wee bit of local pest destruction work, certainly not enough to remotely justify the "professional grade" thermal equipment but this unit which should land for under NZ$1000 might be justifiable?? https://nightvisiononline.co.uk/prod...ard-nv007-16mm

Has anyone used this sort of gear here for Rabbits/Wallabies/Hares. Do they react to the IR beam (i.e. if they are already "light shy" do they see the IR) ?$

The main advantage of this unit that I can see is the ability to use it across several rifles (assuming they all have the right type of scope and an adapter fitted) without any zeroing issues. The advertised battery life and the use of the common old 18650 is also attractive>

Used good thermal gear culling wallabies recently - if I could afford it thats the way to go. IR isnt in the same leaque.

There are plus and neg for both
Clarity with NV with extra IR better than Thermal which is good for scope/sighting
NV you use more easy in daylight which happens after pre dawn hunts occasionaly
Thermal for locating is 2nd to none though

Its all bulky stuff though
Just set up my Baikal with NV and it still weighs in at 10.8lb :-(
Batt pack and IR attachments dont help - but I can break it down into pack with Baikal
Do the locating 1st with Thermal then set up for shooting take 20-30 secs

No Thermal at moment - hope b4 Spring

Has anyone used the Pard NV 007?
Tentman started with a post and never finished the fence
Someone will have one and am interested in the performance of it.

Kiwi-Hunter did and uses it extensively, its a good bit of kit, but requires a particular mindset and discipline to make best use of it . ., . .

I use one on a 223 and 22 for pest control it is a good piece of equipment but dont expect to use it sucessfully straight out of the box you need to modify your thinking to get the best out of it.
It buggers up your eye relief but that's easily fixed with a slip on recoil pad.
You really need a parallax ajustable scope or the picture will be blurry beyond a certain range still good enough to shoot with but a bit annoying.
You are looking at a TV screen so the image lacks depth.
The image is colour during the day but black and white under ir or late in the evening so you need to be more attuned to shape to pick targets.
That's the few minor niggles the good points are
You are using your daytime scope something you are familiar with
Its quick to take on and off and doesn't alter balance or weight too much certainly no worse than a maxtoch does
Without the ir it extends twilight shooting by a good hour
The inbuilt ir torch has a shootable range of 200 yards 250 in ideal conditions and it doesn't attract moths and midges like a normal torch it also seems to be less affected by dust and haze
The controls are simple and easy to use in total darkness.
The recording function I have found most usefull for teaching kids to shoot as it allows me to see their sight picture.
I like to think of it as spotlighting with an invisible torch.

I got an NV007, it's my first night scope but I love it.

One thing, I think the scope adapters for it suck. So I looked around and found a relatively cheap adapter on Ali Express that works way better.

It was called "Original Design 46mm Quick Install Adapter Bayonet PARD NV007 Night Vision Scope Camera Fast Install Sleeve Bracket Adapter".

I found it made scope attachment easier and centered the NV007 better.

Marty Henry has covered just about all the unit pretty well, the only thing I will add is I brought a red filter 37mm which slips inside the rubber eye cap! This doesn't help on the clarity too much, but what it does, is allows you to shoot all night without eye strain or black spots you get from the white light picture of the pard.The side focus parallax is a must as this is the main focus as you move from target to target, once set up.
I don't use a external IR, but I am only shooting out to 100yards mostly and the units IR is enough I have run a good external IR and there is a differance with the extra light. Personally I don't need to in the pest control I do.
The Pard is still the best unit cost wise and it works very well for me.

And being a dedicated scope means it’s much the same as a normal set up. Went from a clip on nv unit behind a scope to the pard, and it’s far less clunky
