Need for it to turn cold again IMO before they start...can't get them going as too many spotlights working the private, DoC & forestry at night...like "Christmas in the Park" last weekend with the lights. Once it turns really cold the spotlighters tend to give up but by then the deer have been chased almost to down town Tauranga. I am taking a horse trekking group over the track on Saturday...I hope the trigger happy clowns are at home, deep in the bush or else where on the day.
    Bonecrusher and Gibo like this.
Which is worse, ignorance or apathy...I don't know and don't care.

Plenty of rifle shots heard as well after dark. Seen a quad come out at speed the other night with something dark on the back...either a deer or his mate.

We did the horse trekkie thing yesterday...there is a lot of deer sign on the track, ranging from fawns, medium size deer and up to some of the biggest hoof prints I have ever seen. Plenty of foot traffic [human] on the Bay side lower down but very little from the last 4 kms to the summit. Seen no hunters and heard no gun shots all day and only the remains of one kill [hind]...only foot traffic was a lone "tramper" on the Bay side who absolutely reeked of fresh NZ Green...I guess he was getting his crop out before the rain forecast for this week coming.
