Don't worry, next month they will have to register them.
Sorry to see this thread, Nasty business. I hope the insurance process is expedient, and the police investigation roots out the criminals. Are there any photos to show of the destruction? So to plan contingencies for myself. I cannot imagine it being a quick job to tear down the wall and the studs behind to rip the gun safe out. Scary to think if they've watched your property enough to know your routine.
Sorry to here, bloody arseholes. I've gone to 3 safes now, one in the house with my firearms, one in a shed with ammunition and a hidden one with bolts and action from the rolling block, trying to make it as hard as possible. Concrete floors and brick walls and twice as many bolts that was required with chemical bonding as well. Have cameras and alarms can't be to security conscious nowadays.
I'm trying to get to heaven before they shut the door.
Sorry to hear, that sucks, never nice timing but just on opening day as well! Stories like this just make me nervous about my own house and garage. I've been thinking more and more about how to harden doors and about getting some cctv cameras installed. A friend had his garage cleaned out as they were sleeping in the house next door... Just on dawn. Garage was on the street side of the house. All caught on the neighbours cctv cameras. A crew of guys park their car out on the street, walk up to the garage, break in through the windows at the rear, open the door and proceed to clean out all the tools and gear. Bold as you please. The old guard dog is deaf as so the whole family slept right through it... Nice friendly open suburban Chch street and neighborhood.
I thought I was paranoid fitting them at the time not anymore reading this shit. I have them everywhere on the boat too, the one on the trailer felt last month and was pinging every time a car with an iPhone owner was driving past. Drove at shown location and recovered it on the side of the road. They definitely worth the money. By the time they crack the safe open and dig them out of the stock you will have a good idea about the bastard location.
Happens here in the far north quite a bit too. cops tell me it's gangs wanting access to firearms.
Not sure what to do about it. they come in during clear daylight.
Maybe delay adding our addresses to the shopping list ?
Have you been into the local hunting store before the season. What they are doing is watching and taking regos and following people home. Same trick here. Follow the tradie van and then target up drive way or on road. Cost my son 7k. 3 vans for the company my son works for got done over. Use a glass cutter or portable cut off saw.
