I think that 1080 isn't going away anytime soon so if we as a group of hunters want to be effective perhaps we could try influencing DOC in the direction of adding deer repellent to their poison drops?

I believe that this is being done in the Haurangis? Others on this forum will know more
I wonder if the deer repellent works the same as the bird repellent they used down south the other week and killed 10 kea

Nick smith said the other night it costs 20 dollars a hectare to apply aerialy and another 5 to add deer repellent.(hope i have those numbers right)

Somehow that seems very expensive to spray some stuff on it.

You guys know this is done every 3 years in this spot? Don't you read the public notices?
    Here ya go: Project K
The vast majority of that area is a shit hole anyway that doesn't hold that many deer. It looks like most of the more productive areas are well outside the boundary so don't blame 1080 for your lack of success.

How come none of you winged when they did up coro and great barrier island,,
oh that's right theirs no deer their so it dose not effect you there for you don't care
Hunters are the only ones that complain and only do when its an area affecting them..

All the walkways of Hamilton have just been pasted,, warning signs everywhere..no one complains about it tho.
Would be good to see hunters band together with other organizations on matters non related to hunting..

DOC do fuck all 1080, it's all AHB and your regional council. Both need to cover a percentage of the cost, so if one says no the other, no matter how keen cannot do the application.
You are dead right that 1080 is not going away too. If you want influence with added repellant have your local branch of NZDA put in a submission for it to be used, or better still get off your arse and do one yourself.
The repellant is a blood product that is sprayed on immediately before loading in the hopper. Th issue is the application of the repellant to the bait as it is time consuming. If someone was to create a better application system then it may be easier to sell to the AHB?
If you're really keen you can also pay yourself the difference!
The range of what we think and do is limited by what we fail to notice. And because we fail to notice that we fail to notice, there is little we can do to change; until we notice how failing to notice shapes our thoughts and deeds

Got ur facts 100% there KJ ?

Guess you dont have to carry a scanner when your in the bush or move your traps every 3 days even if your still pulling coons off them..
Remember its not about getting them all..or there would not be a 300 mill budget for next year lol

There has been mutiple attempts to get this shit banned whether we know the area or not I'm sure those concerned have tried.

The map included shows the Project Kaka boundary, the helicopter 1080 drop can be expected over the whole area. All entrances are to be signposted; it's just good to get a heads-up before you go.

Project Kaka? Sounds like the North Island version of the South's Kea Kill

In the case of the Tararuas its the Greater Wellington regional cuntcil organising the whole shitting show. Dunno if that means they're paying, organising on behalf of doc, at docs behest , or off their own bat ...

Just spoke to DOC about this drop - earliest they are looking at putting pre-feed out is 14th Oct then actual 1080 won't be for another week after that. All of that will be delayed by bad weather and/or high winds so that is a minimum.
